2024 Jaidon Joseph Smith Educational Scholarship Recognition Award
Skylar, an exceptional student, defied the odds by triumphing over learning disabilities through the Gifted Talented/Learning Disability (GTLD) program at Walter Johnson High School. This transformative experience equipped him with self-confidence, advocacy skills, and a passion for learning through listening.
Supported by audible books, assistive technology, and personalized instruction, Skylar harnessed his visual-spatial and logical-mathematical abilities to compensate for his disabilities. By senior year, he had not only excelled academically but also demonstrated leadership and dedication.
His impressive achievements included taking three AP courses in physics, calculus, and computer science, maintaining a flawless 4.0 GPA, and achieving top percentile scores on the SAT and ACT. Beyond academics, Skylar captained the varsity soccer team, volunteered as a tutor, and earned accolades for both his athletic prowess and scholarly achievements.
We wish Skylar all the best as he applies his skills and knowledge to real-world challenges, contributes to scientific advancements, and makes a positive impact on society at Cornell University.
