2024 Jaidon Joseph Smith Educational Scholarship Recognition Award Recipient
Suryan defied adversity to discover his true passions. Initially frustrated and disheartened by academic setbacks and negative feedback, he found hope through the MCPS Gifted & Talented/Learning Disability (GT/LD) program.
In this supportive environment, Suryan received specialized instruction, learning coping strategies for his challenges while tapping into his innate strengths and creativity. His newfound confidence transcended music and permeated his academic life. He raised his grades, conquered tests, and embraced challenging coursework.
Suryan’s voice soared beyond the classroom—he joined the choir, auditioned, and secured a spot in the elite acapella group. As president of the Physics Club, he led his team to victory in multiple competitions. His resilience paid off when he aced the ACT, earning acceptance into Johns Hopkins University’s class of 2028.
With a planned major in neuroscience, Suryan aspires to heal and inspire others through medicine or psychology. Music remains his steadfast companion, especially for those navigating learning disabilities. We look forward to seeing how he soars at Johns Hopkins University this fall.
